Better Man by Pearl Jam

                   This blog post will be about a song that is called “Better Man” by Pearl Jam. It is a great song and I really like it. It is written by an older band which you will find is with a lot of my posts. It is a slower song but not drastically so. It could be thought of to have a deeper meaning but I like to think that it was a song that was made for the heck of it. There are always going to be some people who don’t like a song, but I haven’t found anyone who hasn’t liked this one. Granted I only asked three people, but that isn’t going to change what I said. I like listening to this song, and don’t want anyone trying to make it a big deal to change that. It starts off a little weird but after about twenty or so seconds it gets better. This is one of those songs that is just nice to listen to. When I listen to this song it makes me happy and calm.

                  This is one of those songs that just seems to flow and is easy to understand. I like that the beat and rhythm work together seamlessly. It isn’t that long but it is a great song. The tone of the song is proud and like the person is telling them something. It is an upbeat song and is something that is nice to listen to. There are songs that are about the same thing only they are sad and angry, but this isn’t and I like that about this song. This is like a lot of other Pearl Jam songs, but is one of my favorites. I have a lot of other songs that I can write about and I might.

Ain't No Rest for the WIcked by Cage the Elephant

This post will talk about a song called, “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked” by Cage the Elephant. It is a song about how a normal person is walking down the street and sees all of the problems around him. From being robbed to seeing people stealing from the Church, this man sees some of the things that are wrong with the world. As he walks down the street his is approached by different people who all are doing wrong things. Something that he does that is unique in this song is that he asks them why they do this. In the song, they all say the same thing. “I’ve got bills to pay, I’ve got mouths to feed, ain’t nothing in this world for free.” This means that the world is so hard on them that they have to resort to stealing from others and horrible things to stay alive. We put so much stock in money that those without it have to scavenge and steal in order to support themselves and others.

I like this song because it is very distinct in the way that he speaks so that you can understand what he is saying. The author wants you to understand the song so you can get what it really means. The tone of the song is strong and supposed to draw the listener in so that they can pay attention to it. A reason that I like this song is that it reminds me of how lucky I am and how much I have. People like to put so much into what they have that they don’t think about what others have, and that is what this song talks about.

Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd

This post is going to be about a song called, “Simple Man.” There are a few remixes of the song with only minor changes to the lyrics and rhythm. I like this song because it is a song that if you listen to the lyrics, actually has a deeper message. The tone is very serious and implies that the author wanted to act like the song was teaching a lesson to people everywhere. I also chose this song for my first post because it emphasizes Simplicity, which is the Quaker testimony that my school has chosen to pay the most attention to this year. Simplicity has many meaning that change with whoever you ask. Its meaning to me is to not lose sight of yourself in the changing world. This song sings about having your fun in the world, but always coming back to who you are as a person.

As I look further into the lyrics of the song I feel that almost all of it can have a different meaning to a different person. When he says, “don’t live to fast” it can mean make sure that you don’t rush through life trying to get to one point. There are so many meanings to this song that I’m not going to bother to write them all. It is an amazing song, but it’s not for everyone. I used to not like any music, at all, but when I started hearing Classic Rock I liked it so much that I took up guitar. This ties into my post because a lot of times, it takes listening to it a few times to start liking it. The first time that I heard this song was a few days before my guitar lesson, and I knew that I wanted to learn it. So, I listened to it until I had almost the entire thing memorized. This made me think of all of the different meanings that this song had and how emotional it is. I recommend that you listen to it a few times before you decide if you like it or not.

Since I am in the eighth grade class I had to write a query about Simplicity. I was wondering if you thought that this song might be good to play in the background of the presentation. Keep in mind that it would be played in front of children from the age of 4 to 15. Any answer is a good one.
