Stop S.O.P.A.

I am going to stop posting about music for a day and talk about a bill that is being discussed called SOPA. SOPA stands for the Stop Online Piracy Act. I feel that it is important, because it is trying to limit what people can and cannot use. What the act wants to do is, if someone uses a piece of music, or a video, or anything, and they give credit to the creator, the creator can complain and have the person’s site or page taken down. It won’t only affect the person that used the piece, it will also affect the people related to the piece, there are people monitoring the websites who can take down anyone who is related to that person and anyone else who used the one piece. This can stop all online blogging or use of videos that you didn’t make yourself. If you wanted to see something you would have to go to the creator’s site and see it there. It could basically block the majority of “YouTube,” or “Google,” or any website that people use to get common information. This is something that can limit freedom of speech and change the way that people use the internet.
This won’t only affect the online use of something; it can also limit any ads or sharing of information, if the creator doesn’t see it to be fit. This is something that has a long list of people who disagree with this but there are also people who agree with it. There are songs and movies that are copied daily. It is their property and they do deserve the credit, but it can make legal consequences for the smallest of things. Things like a video of someone singing a popular song, or someone talking about something that they love, can get them shut down and make it so they can’t use that site. There are websites that you can go to that will show you what this is really about. I encourage you to find out all that you can about the subject and get you to help with this problem
